Girl Scout Shoes Part 3 - including knock-offs
Don't feel bad if you don't remember the 1980 launch of the Official Girl Scout shoe by Walkin Shoe Company of Schuylkill Haven, PA...
1980
These shoes aren't even "Girl Scout" - they're just "G.S." shoes!
...It was gone from the GS catalog by 1981.
However, did you ever notice that the Girl Scout models in both the 1980 AND 1981 catalogs were all wearing the Walkins official Girl Scout shoes?
Subtle marketing!
1995
Perhaps it's just a coincidence or another example of subtle marketing?
The 1995 launch of the Personalized Girl Scout Sneakers was only in the catalog that year. However in the 1994, 1995 and 1996 Girl Scout catalogs many Girl Scout models are seen sporting white sneakers!
2008 was the launch of Pastry Fab's Cookie sneaker line called Thin Mint footwear. Vanessa and Angela Simmons (daughters of Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Recordings and other businesses) were the spokespersons for the brand.
The shoes came in 2 "flavors" - chocolate brown and white. Each came in a coordinated box, decorative tissue wrap inside the box and specialty shoe strings.
In addition, and almost forgotten, were matching backpacks (14" x 12" x 5").
Adult shoes were $70, kid shoes $45 and the backpacks were $65. A portion of the proceeds were donated to GSUSA.
The shoes and backpacks were emblazoned with Courage, Character, Confidence - the Girl Scout slogan for the time.
These items were available online, possibly in stores that carried the Pastry Fab's Cookie line, but not through GSUSA or listed in the catalogs.
