The Girl Scout Scarf
A BRIEF REVIEW OF NON-UNIFORMED GIRL SCOUT SCARVES
FROM 1937 THROUGH 1979 - AND INCLUDES ONE SCARF THAT STARTED OFF AS NON-OFFICIAL, THEN BECAME OFFICIAL 2 YEARS LATER.

1937
First called a "Sports Scarf" and the catalog listed 4 colors; red, blue, green and yellow. In 1939 the green color was dropped from the listing. The last year this design was listed is 1940, when it was renamed the "Peasant Kerchief." That same year the name Sports Scarf was applied to another design (11-678).

This rarely seen Girl Scout scarf was new in 1964, promoting the new age-levels of Junior and Cadettes, displaying some of the badges from those programs.
Shown above is the catalog image, that gives a better look at the scarf.

The 1971 Girl Scout "Signature" scarf started off as an non-official accessory, but by 1973 it had become an official alternative to the bone-white scarf of the adult uniform.
