Although raingear has been a standard in the Girl Scout catalogs, early gear did not carry the Girl Scout logo and is not included here.
This page does include: rainkerchiefs, rain bonnets, rain capes, rain ponchos, rubber boots and UMBRELLAS!

Although raingear was offered in earlier GS catalogs, nothing in the descriptions noted that they were marked as Girl Scout.
In 1932, this raincoat for Girl Scouts and leaders notes that it has Girl Scout buttons that identify it as official.
1947 - plastic, 34" triangle
Blue version 1947-1948 only.
1947- 2 colors; red with white emblem or yellow with brown emblem
1949 - This mystery New Girl Scout Raincoat was seen in the 1949F catalog, and never seen again. It says it was approved for uniformed wear, but it's not known if it carried the GS label, or buttons, etc.
This 1953 Rain Bonnet (green) appears to have the GS trefoil on the flap of the small GREEN case.
For many years the item # 15-197 raincape was sold, but in 1952 the catalog shows the addition of the Girl Scout trefoil!!!

The Brownie umbrella was first offered in the GS catalogs in 1954.
The 2 raincoats shown are an exception to my rule that if it doesn't say "official Girl Scout" in any way, it probably won't be shown here. The reason is that I have noticed that some items in the mid-1950's GS catalogs may show a trefoil or something, but the description may not mention it. I'm thinking that maybe these raincoats did have some GS mark on them, it's just not mentioned. I have no proof, just a strong feeling. So - here are 2 raincoats from 1956.
The little red square thing near the Brownie's feet is a carry case for the raincoat. The green raincoat also came with one, in green. No mention is made of the red rainboots.

" I noticed that within your Keychains section you show what is actually called a PAM (product authentication medallion). Used on items that were not otherwise marked as official Girl Scout (with a trefoil or other markings), the PAM was secured by a ball chain. Items that bore a PAM included umbrellas and some purses.

This 1958 ad in the Girl Scout Leader magazine supports my thought that the raincoats shown in the catalogs since 1956 were indeed "official."
The ad shows the 2 new models of umbrellas from 1957, and then identifies that raincoats as Girl Scout raincoat and Brownie raincoat.
The carry cases are not mentioned, neither are the rainboots.
The New 1957 Brownie umbrella, shown in both images above, had a polka dot ruffle around the edge that is really hard to see. Some images seem to show the polka dots as white, other seem to show the polka dots as black.
1959 brought the new official Girl Scout and Brownie raincoats.
The trefoils (on the front and back) were reflective for safety when walking at night.
The new Girl Scout umbrella was introduced in 1961, and the Brownie version in 1960.
This image appears to show a new style in the raincoats, but they are the same, only without the belts.
This image also gives a better look at the Brownie umbrella with the plaid edging.

1965 - a new style for the Brownie raincoat, and continues with the reflective trefoils on the front and back. However, the "Girl Scout" raincoat seems to have remained the same style, but lacks the trefoils of earlier version.

Finally, in 1976 the Brownies got their own poncho! The 1961 yellow Girl Scout poncho appears to have stayed unchanged.
1979 - the Contemporary Trefoil logo appears. The Brownie poncho disappears in 1986.
The ubiquitous yellow poncho, basically unchanged since 1961 (except to the logo updated in 1979) is missing from the 1889 GS catalog...
1990 brings a new version, it disappears in 1994.
