Girl Scout All-States Encampments

Girl Scout All-States Encampments were held yearly from 1951 through 1968, held in several different states over the years. Like the Roundups, competition was high to be selected to attend an All-States, whether you were a Senior Girl Scout or an adult volunteer.

The fee for the camp in 1960 was $85 and was borne by the Girl Scout. Often local councils would sponsor fundraisers to help cover the costs of attending camp. Some years the camp was international with campers and volunteers from other countries, often using the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund to cover costs.

In 1958 Intermediate Girl Scouts who had experience in primitive camping were allowed to apply for All-States, but that was the only year known to allow the younger girls. It is not known how many girls who did attend in 1958 were Intermediate Girl Scouts and not Senior Girl Scouts.

Later on the term "camping laboratory" was used to explain the purpose of the camp, but in the early years no explanation was needed. The All-States Encampments began before the first Roundup. Having attended an All-States was a good thing to have on a Senior Girl Scout's application/resume' for a Roundup.

2 pin styles have been found for the All-States Encampments, one patch style and one flag style. The camps were uniformed with styles that changed throughout the years.
