All About
Girl Scout Lips

Picture93.jpg

First launched in the fall of 2011, the Girl Scout lip-related products were available in many locations. This newspaper ad shown right ran in several newspapers. The price of $5 was for the five-pack. Yes, although it shows 5 lip balms and notes that there are 5 flavors, it only lists 4 of those flavors.

Aspire Brands division of Bonnie Bell was the first licensed vendor for lip balms and lip glosses, inspired by the flavors of Girl Scout cookies. Lip Smacker was already a known product name in the lip-care marketplace, and fit readily in the Girl Scout world.

Dating these products relies on the details of the packaging. First-generation packages of the lip balm and lip glosses are hard to find today. These are easily noted by the lower "product number" found in the upper right hand corner. Multi-packs did not always have a product number. The address noted for Aspire Brands/Bonnie Bell only lists Santa Monica, CA for an address.

This cute little purple zipper pouch is also first generation, and contains a unique tin of the coconut caramel stripes flavor. This appears to have been the only tin offered during this run of products.

Was there ever a Peanut Butter flavored lip gloss?

This tri-pack of lip balm is in first generation packaging. However, it's product number 740 remains the same when issued in 3rd generation packaging.

2nd generation packaging

In time for Christmas sales and focusing on the "stocking stuffer" market, the 2nd generation of products rolled out in late 2011. These new products had a small change in the address of Aspire Brands/Bonnie Bell - the addition of N-1703 Sarpsborg, Norway under Santa Monica, CA.

Norway becomes part of the Bonnie Bell address, a clue for being 2nd generation packaging

Shown above is the lip balm, nail polish and nail stencils, in two flavors; Thin Mint and Trefoil.

This green, vinyl zippered pouch is about 9" x 4" and is covered in green, pink and white trefoils. The product was called "Totable Lip Collection."

Spell Check, anyone?

The Lip Smacker "Lip Gloss Duo" only came in 4 flavors.

These two products looks very similar. However, the one on the left is 2nd generation packaging and the one on the right is 3rd generation packaging. Each has their own title - the one on the left is "Sweet Treats Lip Collection" and the one on the right is "Winter Wishes."

3rd generation packaging

The addition of the round "Lip Gloss Made in the U.S.A." is the easiest clue for 3rd generation packaging, but there are other difference noted. Less cardboard used in the packaging as well as design changes. These products were available in 2012.
