Girl Scout Insigna:
Both Common & Unique

Picture23.jpg
My alternate idea for a title to this page was "Weird stuff you may find on stitched on an old Girl Scout uniforms", but that was too long. Here's a roundup of Girl Scout insignia -

#1 question I get on Girl Scout Insignia is "What is this stripe"

Picture22.jpg

"Shoulder knots," also known as patrol ribbons, were 2 ribbons of different colors that were supposed to coordinated with the troop's crest colors,

yet be different from the other patrols' color combinations.

These were discontinued in 1919.

2 examples of "Red Feather" badges, occasionally seen. The Red Feather program was a fore-runner of the United Way.

This is a Girl Scout Service Strip. If in silver metallic ribbon it signifies 5 years in Girl Scout, if in gold it's 10 years. Used from 1921 until 1941. For the first several years the troop had to find the ribbon on their own, but in 1934 they were offered in the GS catalog. In 1932, info was updated to include 15 years of service; 2 silver stripes and 1 gold stripe.

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Lord Baden-Powell's birth, this patch was worn on the pocket of the uniform. A year's worth of Baden-Powell inspired activities were doled out monthly in the Girl Scout Leader magazine.
